The New Year is Around the Corner

I am off to Italy and won't be posting for a couple of days (I will be staying in a place where there is no WIFI ... imagine? no WIFI!!).

It's almost time to say goodbye to 2017. What a year this has been. I don't know how it was for you but me, I am indeed thankful for all the emotions I got to experience but ... it was intense. To say the least. A good year, but now I am ready for the new thing!

Numerologically speaking 2018 will be the year of change. Of new ideas. Of new ways of doing things. New ways of thinking things. It's gonna be great (always the optimist hahaha). No, honestly. It's gonna be great. New places to discover. New emotions to feel. New people to meet.

To everybody out there: from the bottom of my heart I wish you only the best for 2018 and that all your wishes may come true.

Being Thankful: Life's Gifts

You know, I really like this new #beingthankful series of mine. I think I am going to continue writing about what I am thankful for even during next year. I realized that it's something I want to do regularly not only at the end of a year. It's kind of soothing to sit down and think about what I am thankful for and why I am thankful for it. An excercise in mindfulness of sorts.

Today though I am #beingthankful for life's gifts. Unexpected gifts, obviously. Life has a wonderful way of showing its kindness. It can happen by means of people that you meet. Or a conversation you had. An article you read. Ideas that come to your mind. Sometimes it's also about mundane things like finding a parking place when the parking garage is full when you are already late to your appointment. Or when there is just one loaf of bread left when grocery shopping (as if it'd be waiting for you). Or finding your dream boots on sale.
Usually people are referring to these kind of situations by saying: what a coincidence...
No coincidence. No such thing as coincidences. A gift of life it's what I call them!

Being Thankful: My Inner Voice

Today I am #beingthankful for my inner voice.

Rumi said: There is a voice that doesn't use words. Listen.

I do listen. Always did and even more so this last year. In the past, I have taken decisions based on what my inner voice said and I can say that some of those decisions were the best ones I have ever taken. Not all of them, eh, but most of them. And those who didn't make any sense were the funny ones (!!) and that was usually when I needed to learn a lesson...
Don't mistake my inner voice with my ideas. Ideas are fashioned by my brain and it's usually something I know "but didn't think of". My inner voice on the other hand doesn't live in my brain but in my heart (hence the thing about not always making sense!).
It happens though that I let other voices prevail. Voices from the outside (friends, family, etc.) that become so loud that I am not able to hear my inner voice any longer.

Steve Job said: Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice.

One of my wishes for 2018 is to allow my inner voice to become clearer and louder!

Facebook Challenge

One of my Facebook friends (one I actually really call a friend, even in my "real" world) "challenged" me to post pictures of my everyday life in black and white without giving any explanations. Pictures of people weren't allowed either. 7 days of pictures. Showing my life.
It was a pretty cool challenge actually.
Do you wanna know what my last week looked like?

Well, it started off with a picture taken during a walk along the lake (some pictures won't be black and white because they are lovelier in "real" color!)

Then it was me practicing the flute

The next day was about thinking (it was one of these days when the mind takes over)

I spent the next afternoon at the mall

Traffic jam the next day

Getting a feeling that Christmas is around the corner

Lunchtime of the last day of the challenge spent soaking up on the sun (after days of fog and rain!) ... where if not looking at the lake?

Being Thankful: Music

Today, I am #beingthankful for the music. Like the ABBA song (remember that one??). Really, I love the rhythm and melody of this song (of all their songs, actually) (one of my first music tapes that I bought with pocket money was an ABBA album haha). I had never realized though how true the words of this song actually are to me (well, not the part about "I have a talent" hahaha):

Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me.

Thank you for the music! From the bottom of my heart. Thank you for the music I now play myself with my flute. Thank you for the music (of all kinds) that I listen to. What would life be without?? Not as wonderful as with it!

Being Thankful: Friends

I am #beingthankful for my friends. They may not live nearby (some of them actually live far away and we see each other only every other year or so) but they are all in my heart and they helped me become who I am today, that's for sure.
I love them. I love it that they are all so different from each other. It's a gift to me. My life would be so dull and empty without them. Without being able to share funny moments, thoughtful or sad ones. To talk about art, music, food, travel, ideas and the meaning of life. To ask for opinions and views.
What a lucky girl I am!
Some friends I have known since my teens. Others only for a couple of months. Doesn't change the power of our friendship though.
It's time to say it out loud:
I love you all so much.
Thank you for being who you are and making me become who I am today!
